Understand How Your Leadership Team Performs Across Eight Behavioral Measures, Compare Your Results Against The Pegasus Founder Index, And Identify Opportunities For Leadership Development.

Overview

Pegasus Ratings is a behavioral intelligence platform designed to help CEOs, boards, executive teams, and business advisors evaluate the collective behavioral capabilities of a company's senior leadership team.

The platform analyzes leadership behavioral data and converts it into an easy-to-understand one-to-five-star rating system across eight behavioral measures.

Each rating is compared against the Pegasus Founder Index, which includes the top 50 founder-led companies evaluated using the same behavioral rating methodology.

These comparisons help organizations understand how their leadership teams stand relative to the index, identify areas of behavioral strength, and recognize opportunities for further development.

Pegasus Ratings connects leadership behavior with financial value creation, succession planning, and leadership development priorities.

With Pegasus Ratings, you can:

  • Evaluate leadership behavior: Understand your senior leadership team's collective behavioral tendencies across eight key measures.
  • Compare against the Pegasus Founder Index: See how your leadership team compares with 50 founder-led companies.
  • Understand your market position: Review your company's rankings, relative standing, and differences against the benchmark.
  • Identify development opportunities: See which behavioral measures could be strengthened to reach the next star rating.
  • Analyze team composition: Understand how behavioral strengths are distributed across your leadership team.
  • Compare leadership teams: Evaluate behavioral differences between your company and individual companies in the index.
  • Support leadership decisions: Apply behavioral insights to board reviews, succession planning, and leadership development.

Important: Pegasus Ratings evaluates the collective behavioral profile of a leadership team. The ratings do not assess individual leaders and should not be treated as investment advice, a credit rating, or a forecast of company performance.

How Pegasus Ratings Works

Pegasus Ratings combines behavioral data from a company's senior leadership team to generate ratings across eight behavioral measures.

The results are then compared against the Pegasus Founder Index to establish the team's relative standing.

Here's how the process works:

1. Leadership behavioral analysis

Pegasus Ratings uses behavioral data analyzed by DNA Behavior.

For companies included in the Pegasus Founder Index, the underlying behavioral data comes from DNA Behavior's Digital Scan analysis of publicly available sources.

2. Calculate the combined leadership team results

The platform combines the behavioral data of a company's senior leadership team.

For each of the eight rated measures, the platform calculates one overall team figure.

This figure is expressed as a population percentile (Pop %).

The team figure is calculated using the median of the rated leaders' scores.

Using the median reduces the influence of unusually high or low individual scores, helping the result represent the leadership team as a whole.

Leaders without complete behavioral data are included in the team count but are not included in the rating calculation.

3. Assign the star ratings

Each population percentile is converted into a rating between one and five stars.

Higher star ratings indicate that the measured behavioral tendency is expressed more strongly relative to the population.

4. Compare against the Pegasus Founder Index

Once the team's behavioral ratings are calculated, the results are compared against the Pegasus Founder Index.

The platform identifies:

  • How your leadership team compares with the index median.
  • Your company's ranking for each behavioral measure.
  • Areas where your team is ahead of the benchmark.
  • Areas where your team falls below the benchmark.
  • How far each measure is from the next star rating.

Your company is evaluated against the index but does not become part of it.

This means your company's results do not affect the rankings of existing index companies.

5. Review the available dashboards

Your organization's workspace displays the Pegasus Ratings dashboards enabled for your account.

Certain features, including the Pegasus Founder Index and Comparison Dashboard, may be available depending on your organization's access.

Every dashboard includes a built-in page guide to help you understand the information displayed.

The Eight Behavioral Measures in Pegasus Ratings

Pegasus Ratings evaluates leadership teams across eight behavioral measures.

These measures are grouped into three areas: Operational Leadership Capability, Leadership Financial Performance, and Additional Leadership Attributes.

Each measure provides a different perspective on the leadership team's natural behavioral tendencies.

Behavioral measure Category What it measures
Results Drive Operational Leadership Capability The intensity with which the leadership team drives bottom-line business results.
Relationship Engagement Operational Leadership Capability The team's investment in building relationships and a psychologically safe organizational culture.
Financial Value Creation Capability Leadership Financial Performance The ability to create financial growth while conserving financial resources.
Financial Goal Drive Leadership Financial Performance The tendency to establish competitive financial goals that support business growth.
Innovation Focus Leadership Financial Performance Investment in resourceful product development, process improvement, and innovation.
Fiscal Control Leadership Financial Performance The tendency to save, manage, and conserve financial resources.
Financial Prudence Leadership Financial Performance A cautious and structured approach to financial decision-making.
Authority Bias Additional Leadership Attribute The tendency to defer to authority or assert authority in decision-making situations.

These eight measures provide a consistent framework for evaluating and comparing leadership teams.

Each measure receives a population percentile and corresponding star rating.

Understanding the Pegasus Star Rating System

Pegasus Ratings uses a five-star rating system based on population percentile scores.

The number of stars indicates how strongly the measured behavioral tendency is expressed relative to the population.

Star rating allocation

Star rating Population percentile Interpretation
1 Star Below 17% Hardly at all. A high strengths development opportunity.
2 Stars 17–30% To a small extent. An all-round strengths development opportunity.
3 Stars 31–69% Average. A moderate strengths development opportunity.
4 Stars 70–83% To a moderate extent. Strengths in use that can be enhanced further.
5 Stars Above 83% To a very great extent. Strong use of strengths that can be refined and developed further.

Example: Interpreting a star rating

Consider a leadership team with the following behavioral results:

  • Financial Goal Drive: 86% — Five Stars.
  • Innovation Focus: 66% — Three Stars.

The Financial Goal Drive result shows that the team has a strongly expressed tendency toward setting competitive financial goals.

Meanwhile, the Innovation Focus result indicates a comparatively moderate level of this behavioral tendency.

These differences provide a starting point for discussing how the team's natural behavioral profile supports its leadership priorities.

A higher rating represents a more strongly expressed behavioral tendency. The suitability of that tendency should still be considered in the context of the company's responsibilities and objectives.

  • The distribution of DNA Natural Behavior Styles across your leadership team.
  • The predominant behavioral style represented within the team.
  • Comparisons between your team's style distribution and the index.
  • The ratings associated with each behavioral style across the eight measures.

These insights provide an additional perspective on how the leadership team's natural behavioral composition relates to its overall ratings.

4. Team Spread Dashboard — Understanding How Strengths Are Distributed

The Team Spread Dashboard shows how individual leaders are distributed across the five star-rating bands.

For each of the eight behavioral measures, the dashboard displays how many leaders fall within each rating category.

This helps you understand whether the team's behavioral strengths are widely shared or concentrated among a smaller number of individuals.

For example, a leadership team may have a strong overall rating in Results Drive.

However, the Team Spread Dashboard may show that some leaders have much stronger Results Drive tendencies than others.

This information helps organizations understand the distribution behind the overall team result.

5. Combined Team Dashboard — Understanding Team Alignment

The Combined Team Dashboard examines how individual leadership scores are distributed around the combined team figure.

It highlights the behavioral measures where leaders are most closely aligned and those where their scores vary more widely.

You can use this dashboard to understand:

  • Which behavioral tendencies are relatively consistent across the team.
  • Which measures show the greatest variation between leaders.
  • How widely individual scores are distributed around the team median.
  • Where different natural approaches may be present within the leadership group.

These insights can support conversations about team dynamics and leadership development.

6. Pegasus Founder Index Dashboard — Comparing Founder-Led Companies

The Pegasus Founder Index Dashboard provides additional information about the companies included in the founder index.

This optional dashboard displays the index companies by name.

You can review:

  • The companies included in the index.
  • Their collective leadership behavioral figures.
  • Financial Value Creation information.
  • Their overall standing.
  • Where your company would rank among them.

The dashboard also supports searching and sorting the company list.

Your organization can use this information to explore leadership behavioral benchmarks across the founder-led comparison group.

Note: This dashboard is available only when enabled for your organization's workspace.

7. Comparison Dashboard — Comparing Two Leadership Teams

The Comparison Dashboard allows you to compare your company's leadership team directly against an individual company in the Pegasus Founder Index.

The comparison is presented across all eight behavioral measures.

It helps you understand:

  • Where each team leads: Identify which company has a stronger behavioral rating for each measure.
  • Behavioral rating differences: Review how far the teams are apart on each measure.
  • Gap to Draw Level: Understand what would be required for one team to reach the other team's rating level.
  • Leadership Style Differences: Compare the natural behavioral styles represented within each team.
  • Team Spread Differences: Review how behavioral strengths are distributed across the two leadership teams.

The Comparison Dashboard only displays combined team figures.

Individual leadership profiles are not shown.

Downloading the Pegasus Comparison Report

You can download the comparison results as a Pegasus Comparison Report.

This provides a downloadable record of the two leadership teams' behavioral comparisons.

Note: The Comparison Dashboard is an optional feature and may not be enabled for every workspace.

Understanding the Key Pegasus Ratings Measurements

Pegasus Ratings includes several measurements that help you interpret your organization's position against the comparison index.

Index Median

The Index Median represents the middle team figure among the companies in the index for each behavioral measure.

It provides a reference point for understanding whether your company's score sits above or below the benchmark.

Rank

Rank represents your company's relative position for a particular behavioral measure.

The ranking includes your company alongside the 50 founder-index companies.

This creates a comparison group of 51 companies.

When two or more companies have exactly the same score, they share the same rank.

For example:

=4 of 51 indicates that your company shares fourth position with at least one other company.

Overall Standing

Overall Standing represents the share of index companies your team is ahead of, averaged across the eight behavioral measures.

It provides a summary of your company's relative leadership behavioral position.

For example, an overall standing of 76% indicates that, across the eight measures, your team is ahead of an average of 76% of the founder index.

Gap to the Next Star

The Gap to the Next Star measurement identifies the improvement needed for a particular behavioral measure to reach the next star-rating band.

It includes:

  • The number of population percentile points separating the team from the next rating band.
  • The fewest leaders who would need to reach the next band for the team figure to follow.

This information helps organizations identify specific behavioral development opportunities.

Because the overall team figure uses the median of rated leaders, the number of leaders needed to move into the next band matters.

Practical Example: Evaluating a Leadership Team

Consider a company with a senior leadership team consisting of twelve leaders.

The organization opens the Pegasus Ratings Dashboard to review its collective behavioral performance.

The dashboard displays:

  • Number of leaders: 12.
  • Overall Ranking: #4 of 51.
  • Overall Standing: Ahead of 76% of the index on average.
  • Strongest Behavioral Measure: Financial Goal Drive.
  • Financial Goal Drive Score: 86% — Five Stars.
  • Innovation Focus Score: 66% — Three Stars.

The Financial Goal Drive rating shows that the leadership team has a strongly expressed tendency toward establishing competitive financial goals.

However, the Innovation Focus score indicates a comparatively moderate tendency toward resourceful product and process development.

Identifying the opportunity for improvement

The leadership team reviews the Gap to the Next Star information for Innovation Focus.

The dashboard shows:

  • Current Innovation Focus Score: 66%.
  • Current Rating: Three Stars.
  • Next Rating: Four Stars.
  • Required Increase: Four population percentile points.
  • Minimum Leaders Required: Two additional leaders at 70% or above.

This indicates that two more leaders would need to reach the higher rating band for the team's median result to reach four stars.

Using additional dashboards

The organization can then review the Team Spread Dashboard to see how many leaders currently sit just below the next star-rating band.

This provides a clearer understanding of how leadership behavioral tendencies are distributed across the team.

The information can support discussions about development priorities and the behavioral characteristics the organization wants to strengthen.

The figures in this example are illustrative.

Important Considerations and Limitations

Pegasus Ratings provides behavioral insights to help organizations understand their senior leadership teams.

However, several boundaries should guide how you interpret and use the results.

1. Ratings are relative to the comparison index

Pegasus Ratings compares your leadership team with the companies in the relevant benchmark.

As the index is updated, your company's rank and overall standing may change even when your own leadership team's behavioral results remain unchanged.

2. The results represent the leadership team as a whole

The platform uses the median of the rated leaders to calculate the combined team figure.

This approach reduces the impact of individual outliers and focuses the results on the leadership team rather than any one person.

3. Pegasus Ratings does not predict financial performance

The ratings describe leadership behavioral tendencies.

They are not investment advice, credit ratings, or forecasts of revenue, profitability, or financial results.

4. Individual leadership results are not published

Pegasus Ratings reports behavioral results at the collective team level.

Individual leader results are not published through the Pegasus Ratings dashboards.

Individual behavioral analysis is available separately through DNA Behavior's one-to-one analytics service.

5. Leadership information must remain confidential

Leadership behavioral information is sensitive.

Organizations should manage access to dashboards, reports, and exports in accordance with their internal privacy and confidentiality policies.

Summary

Pegasus Ratings provides a structured way to evaluate the collective behavioral characteristics of a company's senior leadership team.

By analyzing eight behavioral measures and assigning one-to-five-star ratings, the platform helps organizations understand their behavioral strengths and development opportunities.

Comparisons against the Pegasus Founder Index provide an external reference point for evaluating leadership tendencies across founder-led companies.

The Overview, Market Position, Leadership Style, Team Spread, Combined Team, Founder Index, and Comparison dashboards offer different perspectives on leadership behavior and benchmarking.

From board reviews and succession planning to leadership development and organizational discussions, Pegasus Ratings provides practical behavioral information to support more informed conversations.

The goal is not to predict company performance or judge individual leaders. It is to understand the behavioral characteristics of the leadership team and identify opportunities for continued development.
